As a painter and commercial
illustrator, Joe Klucar has developed one of
the most unique and identifiable visual styles
in contemporary art. His perfected minimalist
technique utilizes vibrant colors and clean,
fluid lines that endow his images with a bold
sense of movement and expansion. Klucar is clearly
influenced by the groundbreaking work of 60’s
Pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein,
but he also cites Salvador Dali’s broad
imagination and Picasso’s stylistic diversity
as major sources of inspiration. Klucar’s
work is highly informed by pop culture-his style
embodies overtones of everything from classic
Blue Note album sleeves and the 50’s cocktail
generation to the iconography of Russ Meyer
films and paintings of Ernie Barnes.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida,
Klucar studied graphic design at Miami-Dade
Community College and began his career as a
commercial illustrator for numerous advertising
agencies at age eighteen. Since then, he has
divided his time between producing his own paintings,
commissioned work, commercial illustration,
graphic design and teaching. Klucar also held
the post of Art Director for Warner Bros. Publications
for 12 years.
His illustrations have appeared
in numerous publications, including Billboard
Magazine, and have been featured in the album
art for releases by various musical groups,
including Sister Madly, Rudy, Rabbithead, Nucklebusters
Blues Band, Jason Ricci and New Blood, Matt
Kramer and Latin singer/songwriter Eduardo Osorio.
He also produced the official artwork for the
2004 and 2005 Riverwalk Blues Festival in Fort
Lauderdale, FL
Today, Klucar is fully submerged
in his art. He continues to work on commissioned
pieces as well as working on original artwork.
Joe
Klucar continues to expand the visual vocabulary
of contemporary art and illustration by employing
his mastery of traditional mediums and combining
it with the imaginative use of digital tools.
As a result, he has become one of the more sought-after
and respected young artists working today.
